ADVENT PREACHING SEMINAR
November 3 & 4, 2009
Presenter: Professor Jeffery H. Pulse

Theme: Proclaim the Coming!

The Advent season is ripe with themes of anticipation and preparation. However, we will join Mary, Zechariah, Simeon, Anna, the Shepherds, and John the Baptist as we “Proclaim the Coming” of the Messiah. Together with these saints, who provide a bridge between the Old and New Testament, we will proclaim, “Behold the Lamb of God!”

Registration fee is $30.00.

The workshop will meet from 4:00-5:30 p.m. and 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and 8:00-10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Register on-line via the Good Shepherd Institute Conference registration.

LENTEN PREACHING SEMINAR
January 18, 2010
Presenter: Professor John T. Pless

Theme: Dear Christians One and All Rejoice

This year’s seminar borrows its title from the famous Luther hymn, “Dear Christians One and All Rejoice.” Oswald Bayer says that in this hymn “Luther sang of the fact that God’s being is gift and promise.” This midweek Lenten series will use Luther’s hymn along with selected texts from the Fourth Gospel to preach repentance and faith in Christ Jesus whose proper office it is to make God certain. Using insights from the works of Oswald Bayer (Living By Faith, Theology the Lutheran Way, and Martin Luther’s Theology: A Contemporary Interpretation), the sermon series will seek o proclaim Christ as the One “who overcame the assaults of the devil and gave His life as a ransom for many that with cleansed hearts we might be prepared joyfully to celebrate the paschal feast in sincerity and truth” (Preface, DS II, LSB Altar Book, 189).

Registration fee is $30.00. Click here to register for the Lenten Preaching Seminar. NOTE: Registration is also available on the Symposia form. You do not need to register in both places.

The workshop will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Loehe-7.

For additional information on either seminar, contact the office of the Good Shepherd Institute at 260-452-2241.
